Code EFABAR update 2017
While reviewing the Code EFABAR 2014-2016 for the update 2017-2019 it became clear that some parts of the existing documents of the basic Code EFABAR should be refreshed to maintain the credibility of the Code. To be accepted as a Code of Good Breeding Practise, an overall acceptance and trust from the society is a substantial prerequisite. Therefore, all societal demands must be addressed in the Code, even though it might not be possible (yet) for the sector to meet those demands. Based on the foregoing the design of the Code EFABAR has been changed quite substantially. In contrast to former updates, species specific templates have been developed instead of new Guides/Roadmaps. This has given rise to a new Code EFABAR 2017 that will be able to keep pace with demands on sustainable breeding practices now and in the future.
The most important changes in the Code EFABAR are the following.
Documents
The most important changes in the Code EFABAR are the following.
- The name of the Update is Code EFABAR 2017 and not Code EFABAR 2017-2019. Consequently, the adoption (or certification) period is 3 years, regardless the day of adoption. The next update will be done in 2019, to prepare the updated Code 2020.
- Instead of Guides/Roadmaps (Code 2014-2016), the Code 2017 is based on species specific templates. Companies that would like to adopt the Code, must fill in the template(s) carefully.
- Umbrella organisations cannot adopt the Code EFABAR themselves anymore. Instead they are supposed to stimulate their members (companies) to adopt the Code.
