If you are interested in adopting or certifying Code-EFABAR, please contact the EFFAB office. EFFAB assists breeders wishing to adopt or certify Code-EFABAR.

In general
For breeders planning  to adopt Code-EFABAR®, the company management must agree, then make an internal roadmap for improvements and demonstrate how Code-EFABAR is part of their policy. This then has to be communicated within the company after which EFFAB is contacted for assessment and registration.

The following steps should be followed for adoption or certification
1. The Breeding Organisation indicates to EFFAB they are interested to adopt or certify Code-EFABAR.
2. EFFAB sends the required documents including a checklist.
3. The Breeding Organisation undertakes the steps indicated in the “Letter of Adoption”, signs the letter and sends it back to EFFAB, confirming:
  • Code-EFABAR has been discussed in detail with the relevant managers of the organisation and there is common agreement on the fact that Code-EFABAR represents the company’s ethos and policy with regard to animal breeding and reproduction.
  •  The company complies with the 5 General Statements:
             o compliance with all relevant national and EU legislation e.g. zootechnical, animal welfare and animal health;
                 o consult and collaborate with international, national and regional authorities for the development and implementation of policies to support economic, environmental and social                                                    sustainability of the animal breeding sector;
                 o maintain high standards of biosecurity to minimise disease transmission.
                 o ensure the health and welfare of the animals under their care;
                 o ensure balanced selection for production, reproduction, health, welfare, robustness and environmental load.
  • They have settled their internal roadmap. The additional policy and the steps that were and will be taken are attached to the Letter of Adoption, indicating how sustainability and technologies are addressed.
  • Staff is informed on Code-EFABAR.
  • After approval of adoption, companies will inform their clients.
  • They will comply with the procedure for complaints
4.  EFFAB
  • Assesses the internal roadmap. This is done strictly confidentially.
  • Confirms adoption of Code-EFABAR.
  • Sends the adoption certificate, signed by the chair of EFFAB and by the organisation.
  • Adds the name of your breeding organisation to list at the EFFAB website
  • Sends promotion material (as long as available) and your organisation is allowed to use Code-EFABAR logo e.g. on website, letter paper.
  • EFFAB will keep the document from your organisation safely, and will never provide any information to third parties.
